The Sunshine Award: 11 things

Graphic created by Lix Hewett.

So apparently there's something going around called the Sunshine Award and it's basically just an opportunity for bloggers to talk more about themselves. So, uh, guess I'm in?

Lix Hewett at the wonderfully insightful blog A Classic Notion nominated me for the award in her own post, which was an awfully sweet thing to do, so here I am continuing the grand tradition.

The rules:
  • Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you.
  • Share 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Answer 11 questions the nominating blogger has created for you.
  • List 11 bloggers.
  • Post 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate and let them know they have been nominated.

LET'S DO THIS.

1. I make really good salads. Is this really something to brag about you ask? Uh, yes. Because they are really good.

2. I didn't date at all until college. Was it because all the guys were insanely intimidated by me or because I was cripplingly shy? I'll never tell.

3. I'm not attracted to Channing Tatum (at all) but I will acknowledge he has an awe-inspiring backside.

4. I love to rant. I mean I hate-read things just so I can rant to people. Is it healthy? Don't know, don't care.

5. I really like high-waisted skirts.

6. I think being mad at people is so damn tiring, so I forgive really quickly.

7. In another life, I want to be a fashion designer's muse. I can totally be eccentric--look at me jumping into a pool wearing my furs! Look at me eating caviar in a bathtub! I'm so charming!

8. I haven't bought a woman's magazine in probably three years now. Hello, it's called the internet. (Ugh, as a former newspaper reporter, I resent that last statement).

9. I have no desire to be an actress, but if I could be famous in the 30s? Uh yes, sign me up.

10. I have projectile vomited out of the window of two taxis now. Didn't need to know that? Well you're learning facts about me so let's get real.

11. I have a massive girl-crush (stupid term, sorry) on Keira Knightley. MASSIVE. Do you understand? Massive.

Lix's questions:

What do you do for a living, and how did you end up here?

Ugh. NOTHING. Way to remind me. Okay, actually, I'm just in between jobs right now after moving from Kansas--where I worked two years as a crime reporter--to Colorado. My boyfriend and I moved without lining up jobs because our leases were up and we figured it was then or never.

I ended up with a journo job after graduating with a degree in anthropology and journalism in 2010, moving to Australia for seven months and then returning to the States in need of a grown-up job.

What’s your comfort movie/book/TV show/youtube channel/podcast/piece of media?

For the longest time, I went to 30 Rock and Liz Lemon to soothe any doubts I had with life, but now I am a massive fangirl of Leslie Knope and Parks and Rec (maybe not so much the latest episodes though).

Favorite costume you’ve ever worn or want to wear: go.

I desperately, desperately want to be Carmen San Diego. But my boyfriend has decided we should be Kronk and Ysme this Halloween (The Emperor's New Groove, DUH).

What’s your favorite skill you have?

I worked at my college's entomology department for two years, so I always brag to people how I can tell the difference between a male and female grasshopper. And basically any hopper, because I'm awesome like that.

Tell me something awesome you’ve done this week/month/year.

Hmm. I finally started watching the Walking Dead? No, I haven't started Breaking Bad yet, so I'm not that awesome.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I have so many amazing memories in Australia, so I'd love to have some more time there.

Is there anything in your closet you’ve never worn?

Ugh, yes. And it was stuff I purchased while under sales lady pressure, because I'm weak like that.

What’s your favorite type of blog post to write?

Probably anything I file under "Dunce Musings." Though I started this here blog as somewhat of a fashion blog, I just don't take enough photos of my dumb outfits to truly be a fashion blogger. I kind of prefer just commenting on life in general.

What’s on your walls? (No, this is not a subtle way of telling you to buy one of my prints. But hey, if you’re that way inclined…)

Nothing, I'm so boring. Also I'm at my mom's house now between the whole jobs thing. So I could tell you what's on her walls but it's like adult art that cost more money than I have right now.

Graphic design: a blessing or a curse? (And this is not a subtle way of asking you to hire me. I swear!)

I think I would be really good at the creative part of graphic design, but the technical part I don't get one bit.

What’s the first blog you remember following?

Apologies for the boring response, but it was my bestie's over at The Happy Type.

Now for the bloggers I'm tagging (some of whom I know better than others, but all of whom I want to know more about):

1. Kayli at Kayli Wanders.
2. Caitlyn at Chem Grad Boom
3. Zauni at The Kind Side
4. Noor at Noor's Place.
5. Crystal at The Happy Type.
6. Codi at The Art of Balance.
7. Amber at Stages of Gold.
8. Deanna from Casinos to Castles
9. Jess from Objessions.
10. Jess from The Iris Blog.
11. Annmarie from the The Simply Swift Blog.

My dumb questions:

1. You're last meal. Just go.
2. If people could only describe you in one word, what would you want it to be?
3. If you were an Olympian, what would your sport be? (Don't actually need to be talented in this area)
4. What's your drink of choice? (alcoholic or non, doesn't matter)
5. High heels or flats?
6. What's your scent? (Yes, I'm creepily asking you what perfume you wear)
7. The perfect night. What is it?
8. What are the top three traits you want in a boyfriend or girlfriend?
9. Worst movie you have ever seen?
10. What song defined you when you were in high school?
11. How did your blog get its name?

WHEW. And I'm out.

As a side note, I'm shocked and in awe about Channing Tatum....but it is nice to know someone out there who DOESN'T think he's attractive. :-)
